Could all team managers please warmly thank parents for doing bench duty, which is a critical part of the game, but on behalf of BACT remind them, and to let parents who might be new to basketball know, that when they are “on bench” they are to act impartially, and if in doubt, to ask and act on the instructions of the referee. Referees understand the bench are volunteers. In those rare cases where there is a big problem, ask for the “yellow shirt”. Whilst “on bench” parents should not cheer or comment adversely on the referees decisions, and newer parents should be where possible rostered on with a parent who has more experience.
Over the next few weeks BACT has advised it may have lower referee coverage as a lot of the referees are heading into exams. At times teams may be asked to provide a referee for a game. BACT would appreciate it if you can give teams a heads up that this may occur.
