Important message from Marist Basketball

August 21, 2023

Dear Marist Basketball Community,

Summer Season 2023

In 2021, BACT changed the structure of its summer and winter season, with a long winter season and an 8 week “social” summer season.  Due to the short turnaround between winter and summer season, the short duration of the summer season, and the determination by BACT that summer be a social competition, Marist College nominated Basketball as a winter sport.  Accordingly, Marist will not be entering any teams in the upcoming Summer 2023 basketball competition.

However, we would like to assure you that alternative options are available for the boys who are looking forward to participating. Boys are encouraged to explore opportunities to form their own teams and play with their mates, or to play for another Club for the summer season.  For JPL and Division 1 players, Basketball ACT invites nominations into the Junior Summer Slam Competition here.

For more information on the Summer Competition, we recommend visiting the website www.basketballact.com.au.

The website provides information and resources to assist in finding suitable options for the boys to continue their basketball journey during summer.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this decision and appreciate your understanding. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to the College directly.

Marist Basketball will send out details about the 2024 Winter Season in January 2024.

Approaching the end of the Winter Season 2023

As we approach the tail end of the 2023 Winter Season, we wish all of the players the best in the final rounds. Congratulations to the players on their hard work and commitment throughout this season.
As we enter the finals, please remind your boys:

  • Sportsmanship above all: Show respect for your teammates, opponents, coaches and officials. The way you conduct yourself on and off the court is a reflection of your character.
  • Enjoy the moment: Embrace the excitement of the finals while staying true to the values you’ve learned throughout the season. The friendships and memories you create are as important as the competition.
  • Team spirit: Rally together as a team, supporting one another through every game. Celebrate each other’s achievements and lift each other up during challenges.

Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to Marist Basketball.

Sincerely,

Marist Basketball Committee
