The Marist Basketball Club competes in Basketball ACT’s Junior Premier League (JPL) and Juniors competitions.
New Players
Everyone is welcome at Marist Basketball and we have spaces available for boys at all skills levels. Basketball is all about having fun and working as a team, as well as improving technical basketball skills.
Timeframe: The Winter season runs from from March to September.
Grades: The Basketball ACT and Marist caters for all ability levels. The junior competition provides grades for beginners (Division 5-6) through to the top representative level (JPL).
Age groups: There are 4 age groups that Marist enters teams into: Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19. The only age group that is excluded is under 10’s. Marist does nto enter an under 10 team due to the limited number of U10 boys within the Club. We believe their experience and development is best served by incorporating them into our U12 teams. Boys are distributed to teams across the U12 divisions based on their experience and skill. To support this, the Club requests Higher Age Player approval from Basketball ACT for each boy, under their by-laws; and advises coaches and managers if they have Higher Age Players (U10s) in their team.
Team selection: Prior to the commencement of each seasion a team selection process is performed during which players trial and are grouped into like skill groups. Players are asked to please be patient whilst the volunteers work through this process. After teams have been finalised, team managers or coaches will be in touch with parents and carers directly before the season starts.

Please remember, boys who want to play basketball are expected to play for Marist which is outlined in the Marist Sports Policy.
