The Marist College Canberra Basketball Club (MCC Basketball) aims to provide an environment where boys enjoy playing basketball and develop their skills through a commitment to team based sport.
The Club aims to promote knowledge of and love for the game and the positive aspects and fun of playing a team based sport. In relation to this, we note the FIBA commissioned report: “The Role of Basketball in the Educational Development of Youngsters” Prepared by Jose María Buceta.
MCC Basketball seeks to engender a spirit of participation in the Marist basketball community which encompasses players, coaches, managers, Marist referees and parents.
MCC Basketball enters teams in the Junior Competitions administered by Basketball ACT (BACT). These Competitions cater for beginners through to elite players. Basketball can be played all year round across two seasons – a winter season (Terms 2 and 3) and a summer season (Terms 4 and 1). While many boys play all year round, the Club welcomes those boys who play other sports and are looking to enjoy the game by registering solely in winter or summer. Also, to the extent we can, we will seek to accommodate the needs of those who wish to register to play and have commitments to other sports.
The MCC Basketball Club operates under the MCC Sports Policy and MCC Code of Professional Conduct for Coaches and Volunteers which recognises that ”Sport is instrumental in teaching the boys some of the rudiments of winning and losing, competitiveness and teamwork, camaraderie and a healthy lifestyle.”
