Good morning Marist Basketball families
Firstly, thank you to everyone who was involved in U12 to U19 gradings for this coming winter season. In total, over 380 boys have been placed in teams, which is a huge effort. Hopefully this is the first step to a great winter basketball season for the boys. TEAM LISTS FINALISED The results of this grading is now up on the website https://www.maristbasketball.com/winter-season/team-lists-winter/ The training times are here: https://www.maristbasketball.com/winter-season/winter-training-times/. Team managers and coaches will contact the players directly over the next week or two. Please be patient as there are still a few weeks until the competition starts. Please remember that the aim of grading is to place your son in the team that will allow him to thrive playing basketball this season, and hopefully want to continue to play for seasons to come. If your son is disappointed by the division he is placed in this season, please reassure him that the grading is only for one season at a time, and that if he is in a lower division than he was hoping for, this is a great opportunity to excel at the basketball fundamentals, and being a good team player. There may be opportunities for playing at a higher level at various times of the seasons due to player illness, absences and injuries. I like to remind my kids that Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and his mum taught him to use it as an opportunity to work hard and improve so coaches had no choice but to choose him the following year (it also helped that he grew 4 inches!) Grading is determined by a combination of performance at the grading evenings and coach feedback (if available) from the previous season. In cases of higher divisions, grading is sometimes determined by the balance of players (guards, forwards, centres) in a team. The Marist committee will be looking closely over the first few weeks at games and outcomes to ensure that our teams have been placed in the correct division, and recommending changes to ensure that each team is competitive in their division. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED As you look through the team lists, please take note of where there is no listed coach or team manager, and consider nominating for one of these positions. Please advise if you would be interested in taking up one of these positions, even if you have no experience. Marist is lucky to have some very experienced coaches who will be available to assist with planning of training sessions, game strategy, skills and drills, etc. UPCOMING MARIST BASKETBALL EVENTS COACHING CLINICS
