The Marist Basketball Club would like to pass on its thanks to everyone for their time and effort in support of the NAIDOC tournament 8-9 July 2017 played at Belconnen Stadium during the holidays. A big shout out especially to Nicole Johnson who worked every angle she could to get four teams up and running for the weekend.
The Club extends its thanks to Dion and Danni Devow and the Warriors Club for staging an excellent weekend. A very well organised and officiated tournament, a great festive vibe as well with matches being closely contested to quite a high standard.
Most of all though, the Club passes on its thanks to the players and parents who came along to support the tournament. MBC had a strong tournament. The boys played very well and conducted themselves on and off the court to a very high standard. MBC did well across the board and were unlucky not to have more than one team make it through to the Grand Finals. Well done to Paul Mitchell, Jamie Brown, A.J. Rodriguez and John Toohey for stepping up to Coach our teams during the tournament. A number of players absolutely brought their game to the weekend as well, too many to mention but we now have a few more boys on our radar as a result – even a few more dunkers!
The Club would like to acknowledge the boys who had a very strong showing at the tournament, especially the U19 SKY team that got into the Grand Final to be beaten by a very good composite Rats, CGS, Queanbeyan team playing as “Global Rats”. The boys will only get better from that experience. Thank you to the U16s players who played U19s – Dan Busing and Jake Saunders for U19 SKY, and Lachie Kendrick and Jadon Semenas for U19 BLUE.
Big accolades as well to the boys who were selected into the “Warriors All Stars” teams from the tournament – selected by the BACT on court officials:
Under 16s:
Bailey Clarke
Dante Devow (playing for Warriors)
Under 19s:
Liam Rallis – (MVP)
Blake Grmek
Harrison Reid
Jake Saunders.
Awesome effort!
Thank you all for your support to MBC and to the NAIDOC weekend. Hopefully it will become a permanent fixture on our playing calendar.
